Enthroned and Remembered

Last week we began a new series in which we are going through the book of Philippians. In studying this book we quickly come to the realization that the theme of the book is Joy. Many people look for joy in many different places. People look for it through accumulating things which focuses on the external to bring joy. Others look for joy in spirituality which focuses on obtaining joy through internal means. What we discovered last week is that true joy does not come from either the external or the internal but from Eternal.

When we focus on the external we rely on things to make us happy. When we focus on the internal we rely on doing things to make us happy. BUT, when we focus on the Eternal we focus on Jesus Christ as the source of our joy and happiness. The external and the internal ways of bringing joy can be taken away or can fad with time , "But you, O LORD, are enthroned forever; you are remembered throughout all generations" (Psalm 102:12). The Lord Jesus Christ is the one source of true joy that is, has been and always will be. Jesus is the one that is remembered from generation to generation.

As you read the scriptures leading up to verse 12 of Psalm 102 you see the writers discontent with life. He is sorrowful and there is no joy as he looks at his own life and he begins to plead that God would not hide His face from him. He discovers life so many of us need to that when we tie ourselves to the Eternal rather than the external and internal we will have true joy.

Today we need to turn our eyes to the one who is enthroned on high and remember who He is and what He has down. Today we need to tie ourselves to the eternal and discover true joy.
