Bible Reading - Exodus 9, Luke 12, Job 27, 1 Corinthians 13
Love, Love, Love
Love is such a powerful thing as we can see here in 1 Corinthians 13. This chapter lays out what true love is and the power of that love and as I read this passage again today I am reminded of what that true love is.
The part of the passage that I noticed the most this morning is found at the end of verse 7 and at the beginning of verse 8 as it says, "Love..endures all things. Love never ends..." True love endures everything and never stops loving. It does not say that love wants to endure all things it just simply says it endures all things. Again it does not say that love never has the feeling of wanting to end it just says that it never ends. Whether it is a best friend, husband, wife or child I think that if we were all honest with each other there are times when we wanted to stop loving and there are times we did not feel like enduring the things those people were doing to us. The thing that kept us going though was not our emotions or even desires at that moment. The thing that kept us gong was simply love, love love.
I have heard many people say they love someone one but yet when you observe them their actions say they really do not love them or they do not know what true love is. True love seems to be the search for many people though. Right now our church is fairly young with lots of singe people who are all in the search for love. I get asked many times, "how do I know if he/she is the right one for me"? My answer is always the same, "Go and read 1 Corinthians 13. After reading that chapter ask yourself this question. If this person never changes and they stay exactly the way they are with all their issues, failures, quirks and habits once you are together will you be happy?" If the answer is yes I will be happy then it is probably love if the answer is no then you should run.
For me love is not that I love everything about that person but rather I love that person for who they are. I love them enough to overlook the weaknesses and failures and all their issues because after all I have plenty of my own. Love is not always wanting to stay in the game but because I love I do stay in the game. 1 Corinthians is the standard of true love and needs to be brought back into our culture today.
Do you have love, love, love for people?
