Daily Bible Reading - Deuteronomy 8, Psalm 91, Isaiah 36, Revelation 6
Get in His Shadow
If we sit back and think long enough we can all come up with many things to be fearful of. Fear may come as we witness or experience oil spills, earthquakes, accidents or illness. These are just a few reasons why we all need to read Psalm 91. It is such a wonderful promise to those who choose to put their trust in God. It is a promise of rescue, protection, rest and long life.
Listen to the Lord's words to us found in verses 14-16, "I will rescue those who love me. I will protect those who trust in my name. When they call on me I will answer; I will be with them in trouble. I will rescue and honor them. I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation." We see here that it is not that trouble will never come our way, rather that He will be with us in trouble. He will rescue us.
These promises are not automatic though, it is not for everyone. The key is to put your trust in Him, to live in His shelter and abide in His shadow. Abide means to remain; continue; to stay. When we take walks with our girls during the day they often play around trying to jump into our shadows. They discover quickly that our shadows are not big enough for them both to stand in, so the game usually doesn't last very long. The amazing thing about God is that His shadow is big enough for us all to abide in. The Bible says in Isaiah 66:1 that, "...heaven is my throne, and earth is my footstool..." This scripture give me an idea of just how big a shadow we all have to abide in!
Remember today that God is for you and no matter how rough and tough life gets, in the end we win! Take a few minutes to meditate on Psalm 91 and ask the Lord to teach you how to make Him your dwelling place, how to abide in His shadow. The Lord is with you, surrounding you and blocking for you today. So take heart, God is on your side, find rest in His shadow.
