Fear The Lord
In today's culture wisdom is an essential for all of us. The Bible speaks of two types of wisdom. A wisdom that comes from God and a wisdom that comes from the world. Unfortunately to many people lean more on the worlds wisdom rather than the wisdom of God. We need to make sure as Christ followers that we are getting our wisdom from God.
James 3:13-18 gives us a snap shot of the two different types of wisdom. " (13)Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom. (14)But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast and be false to the truth. (15)This is not the wisdom that comes down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. (16)For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice. (17)But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere. (18)And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace". I think from reading this it is pretty obvious which wisdom we would want although it is not always the on we choose.
The wisdom of the world is all around us. Just flip on the TV, pick up a magazine or talk to a friend. It is as if people are just waiting to give you their little bits of wisdom. The wisdom that comes from the Lord comes only as we fear Him. "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding" (Psalm 111:10). The word fear in this verse means, "respect, reverence and piety". It is when we have learned a true respect for our Lord and Savior that we obtain wisdom from him.
For me one of the greatest ways I show respect to anyone is by showing that I trust them. When I trust in the Lord it shows my respect and it leads to Him giving me a wisdom that leads me and guides me. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, "Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. (6) In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths". As we learn to fear the Lord He will give us a wisdom that comes from above and it will give us clear straight paths.
Today rather than going to your friend, Oprah or Dr. Phil for some wisdom you should crack open the Bible, call upon the Lord, fear Him and get the wisdom you really need. It is time to fear the Lord once again.

Yes it's true, I often read bits of wisdom from other people and I am tempted to believe all of it. I have to remind myself to filter everything through the word of God, His wisdom is the only trustworthy wisdom.
