We Worship a God Who Is Personal
There are many religions in the world, probably too many to count. But only the Gospel of Jesus Christ gets down to a personal level, on a one-on-one basis. Did Buddha ever say that he would bear your burdens: Or did Mohammad ever say that his Allah would have his ear open to your cry? Do Hindus have a god they can run to who will save them? How about Confucius? I could go on, but you get the picture.
Only Jesus Christ meets us personally in a very real way. Psalm 68:19-20: “Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens. Our God is a God who saves.” I don’t know about you, but I need a God like that, who is so interested in me -- me personally, that he would daily bear my burdens. Sure, some days I don’t feel burdened at all, but other days I feel like I have the weight of the world on my shoulders. It doesn’t matter to God which day it is; he daily bears my burdens.
Matt. 11:28 says “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden light.” The secret of tapping into this wonderful resource is to come to Jesus. If I am going around burdened down, with my chin dragging the ground, it is my own fault for not running to Jesus and allowing him to bear my burden. That’s what he promised, and he always keeps his promises.
He doesn’t just bear our burdens, his ears are attentive to my prayer. (1 Pet. 3:12) He never tires of our prayers, but he is always listening. He’s never too busy with some else’s bigger problem. When I cry out to him he is right there listening with his ears pricked up, if I may use that term!!
I think we have all been talking to someone and noticed that they were distracted by something or someone and weren’t really listening to us. No so with Jesus. He really, really listens. I am so thankful for that. My favorite prayer this last year has been “Help me Jesus!!” He has helped me and is still helping me.
Sometimes we don’t like the path we’re on, but if we have committed our lives to Jesus we can be confident that he is walking the path with us, is bearing our burdens, is saving us and is listening to our prayers.
God is good all the time,
