Bible Reading - Numbers 24, Psalm 66-67, Isaiah 14, 1 Peter 2
Crave It
In our reading today I could not help getting stuck on two verses in 1 Peter 2. Verses 2-3 say, "Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment, now that you have had a taste of the Lord's kindness." Like babies, once we have tasted of the milk or the Lord's kindness we should crave it, cry out for it.
I remember when my girls were babies. As I became more experienced as a mom I was able to distinguish between their different cries. There was the I'm tired or have a full diaper cry, the I'm hurt cry and the I'm hungry cry. When the "I'm hungry" cry began I could hold them, rock them, change their diaper and even sing to them. Only one thing would stop the cry and that was to get them the nourishment they were craving. Nothing else would satisfy.
Once I tasted of the Lord's kindness and once I began to understand the Word I began to crave it more and more. The Bible says in Psalm 34:8 "Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!"
Nothing in this world can satisfy like the Lord can. Nothing can bring peace like His presence can. You can attempt to fill the craving of His kindness with many other things but in the end you will discover that only He can satisfy.
What are you craving today? If you find yourself craving something that continues to leave you unsatisfied then it is time to taste of His kindness, it is time to taste and see that He is good. Once you take a taste you will find yourself craving it and even crying out for it. The beauty of it all is that He hears your every cry and He will answer!
