Daily Bible Reading - Genesis 37, Mark 7, Job 3, Romans 7
Who will deliver me?
Just the other day my youngest daughter pushed her sister and when I sat her down to discipline her she cried and cried saying, "I didn't mean to". She was crying because she realized that she never wanted to hurt her sister yet she did. She was struggling with the same battle Paul describes for us in Romans 7. Verse 15 says, "For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate".
How many times have you found yourself doing exactly what you do not want to do or know you should never do? I wish I could say that never happens to me but if I did I would be lying. When we find ourselves doing what we do not want to do, doing what we know we should never do this shows us the sin that dwells in us.
So what hope is there if in our minds and will we want to do good yet we do what is wrong? Paul asks the question this way, "Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death?" Christ is and always will be the answer! We see this as he continues on in chapter 8 verse 2, "For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death". When Christ comes into our lives He sets us free from sin, the sin nature dies and we partake of His divine nature.
If we continue habitually in the cycle of sin, doing what we do not want to do we may conclude that Christ must not be the center of our lives. For if Christ is in the center of our lives, leading us then we are no longer bound to the sinful nature, sin no longer rules us. So, evaluate your life today and if you see the sin nature ruling you, causing you to do what you will not to do then turn to Christ. Surrender to the Lord and set your mind on the things of the Spirit. Romans 8:6 says, "For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace". Christ conquered sin and death and through Him you are more then a conqueror. (Romans 8:37)
Thanks be to God, to Christ Jesus who delivers me!
