When You See Him

Matthew 28:17 "And when they saw him they worshiped him, but some doubted". This verse reminds me of an old saying, "you can please some of the people all the time, you can please all the people some of the time but you can never please all the people all of the time. Not that Jesus was into pleasing people but there are some people who just don't get it.

The account of the resurrection is such an eye open experience for me especially when you read all of the gospel accounts of it. As you look at the different accounts of what took place you see the different reactions from the people in the Bible. In this account it just says, "some doubted". In other accounts we actually get nick names for people such as doubting Thomas (that's a bummer) as it actually says that He did not believe. Other accounts she the reactions from people such as Mary Magdalene which tell us she was doubting. The exciting thing in all the accounts though is that there were more who believed than did not believe.

I think the key to all of this is which lenses were these people looking through when they saw Him. If you are looking through lenses of faith the you will see him but if you look through lenses of doubt you will not see him. I was watching the Chronicles of Narnia Prince Caspian last night and the first person to see Asland was Lucy the youngest out of the four. The reason she could see him is because she had child like faith and believed.

When you see him (the Lord Jesus Christ) him through eyes of faith it will cause you to run and tell others and fulfill the great commission. It is with this conviction that the disciples carried out their mandate even to the point of death. When you see him through eyes of faith and all the incredible things he had done in your life and the life of those around you it will cause you to live a life for him. When you see him you will know the resurrection power, you will know the way the truth and the life and you will proclaim it just like the disciples who saw him where commissioned to do at the end of Matthew 28.

For me the assessment of whether or not someone has truly seen him and is following him is by the way that person is living their life. If they have seen him then they will run and tell others about him. If they are doubting then they will struggle to even let anyone at work or elsewhere know that they claim to be a Christ follower.

Have you seen him?
