For nothing is impossible with God - Daily Devotional September

Daily Bible Reading: 2 Kings 15, Ezekiel 5, Luke 1

For nothing is impossible with God.

In the first chapter of Luke we have the account of two miraculous births. First, the angel Gabriel told Zechariah that his wife, Elizabeth, who was old, was going to have a child. Then Gabriel appeared to Mary, a young, unmarried girl, and told her she was going to have a child. Both of these births were scientifically impossible. But since when did science stop God?

I think there are times when God drops something into our hearts that seems impossible for us to accomplish on our own. Our reaction might be, "I can't do that." But God does not expect us to accomplish these things on our own. The key is, WITH GOD nothing is impossible. Another key is believing. "Blessed is she (this works for guys too!!) who has believed that what the Lord has said to her will be accomplished." Luke 1:45. The word of God is powerful and is something we can grab hold of with faith and not let go. His word makes it possible for us to believe even if it seems unbelievable.

What has the Lord said to you? If God has said it, no matter how impossible it seems, it will come to pass. The important ingredient here is, has God said it? Is there something God has really spoken to you or is it a figment of your imagination or something you ate the night before. Mary and Elizabeth had something tangible to help them believe; they had a child growing within them. When God plants a seed in your heart it will grow and you will begin to see that what God has spoken is and can be a reality.

Each of these births took nine months to come to pass. During that time Mary and Elizabeth had to be patient until their babies reached the time of maturity to be born. Do we become impatient when God has spoken something to us and want it to happen immediately, or are we willing to allow the Lord to develop our dream to maturity so it can become a reality? "Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord." Psalm 27:14. "I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I put my hope. My soul waits for the Lord more than watchmen wait for the morning, more than watchmen wait for the morning." Psalm 130:5-6. During a time of waiting growth takes place and dreams mature. God is not in hurry and his timing is always perfect; he is always on time!!

When Gabriel appeared to Mary the scripture says she was greatly troubled but Gabriel told her to not be afraid. There might be times when fear grips our hearts at the thought of something that seems bigger than ourselves, but God says to us, "Don't be afraid." The will of God will never place you where the grace of God cannot keep you. Fear of the unknown is a human characteristic. We like our comfort zone. To just stay in our cozy nest seems much more appealing than being kicked out into the unknown and made to fly. The only way to grow and gain strength is to launch out into what God has for us. That will be different for each person but whatever it is, following God is the only way to a life of fulfillment.

"The blessing of the Lord, it makes a person rich and he adds no sorrow with it." Proverbs 10:22 NLB. The word "makes," (translated as "brings" in the NIV) has the connotation of making something out of nothing. If we commit to God he can bring to pass his plan for us out of nothing. There will be a richness in our life that no other way of life can bring. As Jeremiah 29:11 says, his plans are to prosper us and not to harm us but to give us a hope and a future.

As Pastor Ben always says, "Dream big," for nothing is impossible with God.

That one statement, "The will of God will never place you where the grace of God cannot keep you" is so powerful!!! Great word for today!
