Daily Bible Reading: 1 Kings 1, Jeremiah 28, Mark 2

I took the kids on a trip to see family a few weeks ago. As the plane started to elevate, the kids both sat enamored with the speed of the plane and our city drifting farther away from us. It was amazing to Hannah that the higher we went, the smaller everything below appeared. Tiny little cars, houses and pools looked like a polly-pocket wonderland to my daughter.

I flipped through an old journal the other day and ran across a scribbled note to myself that I don’t even remember writing. It said, "Your problems are not too big, your worship is just too small." It reminded me of that airplane ride. I realized that the size of my problems is all relative to how high up I choose to go. If I choose to focus on how big he is and exalt him, my problems seem like tiny specks below me.

In Mark 2:3-12 four men decided to carry a paralytic to see Jesus. However the crowd was too big and they could not get in. These determined men climbed up on top of the house (brought the paralyzed man with them) and made an opening in the roof to lower him down in hopes of getting Jesus’ attention. Jesus was amazed at their faith and healed the man.

When there seemed like there was no way this man’s problem could be fixed, they chose to get on higher ground. It was then that the began to have hope, devise a plan and make a way to come closer to Jesus. They didn’t focus on how impossible it was for a paralyzed man to be well, or how difficult it was to push through the crowd. They chose to focus on the fact that Jesus was a miracle worker – and they were relentless in finding a way to get to Him!

If you feel overwhelmed with your circumstances today, I encourage you to get on higher ground. Choose to focus on how big HE is and what your facing will seem tiny in comparison.

Thanks for reading and responding,
Melissa Miller

Post a Comment! Questions for reflection/response:
1. What are some circumstances your facing that seem impossible?
2. What are the benefits of spending time worshiping?
