Making God Marvel (Matthew 8:10)

As I was reading Matthew 8 today the phrase. "He marveled" hit me like a ton of bricks. Jesus the son of God, God in the flesh here on earth, the all knowing everliving Lord Jesus Christ MARVELED!

What is it that could make the One who died on the cross for all humanity marvel? What is it that could cause such wonder and awe to come to the One that has been around since the foundations of the universe. What could cause Jesus to stop and say, "WOW man you got it going on and I have never seen anything like this before". Well, the simple answer to that question is... faith.

In all our ambitions to impress God with our big churches, amusing programs, church attendance, amount of people we have witnessed to, the number of pages of the Bible we have read and the hours we logged in prayer nothing makes God marvel more than our faith. The Bible says in Hebrews 11:6 that without faith it is impossible to please God. In Luke 18:8 the question is asked, when Jesus returns will He find faith on earth. We see throughout the Bible that the one thing that God is looking for and the one thing that pleases Him the most is faith.

In the passage that we are looking at today we see that a man came to Jesus with a major crisis in his life. One of his servants back at home was in major pain. The centurion, rather than running to a doctor ran to Jesus. When he found Jesus he knew that He could heal him. Not only did this centurion believe that Jesus could heal him, he believed that Jesus could just speak a word from where He was and his servant would be healed. Wow, now that is some faith and it is that faith that made God marvel!

Faith is conviction of the truth of anything, belief; in the NT of a conviction or belief respecting man’s relationship to God and divine things, generally with the included idea of trust and holy fervour born of faith and joined with it. Relating to God. The conviction that God exists and is the creator and ruler of all things, the provider and bestower of eternal salvation through Christ. A strong and welcome conviction or belief that Jesus is the Messiah, through whom we obtain eternal salvation in the kingdom of God. Hebrews 11:1 says, "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen" and this faith is what made Jesus marvel in Matthew 8:10.

What things are you dealing with today and what crisis are you going through? Stop what you are doing, run to Jesus and bring your crisis to Him. Lay it all at His feet with the faith that He can take care of it and watch God Marvel.

This is very true. I have never thought that passage that way. Good blog, I am going to go pray for more faith!

Great blog. Faith is easy to say we have, but harder to walk out at times. I know God is working more faith into me!
