Bible Reading Plan - Ruth 1-2, Isaiah 44, Jude
Fruitless Trees (Jude)
I believe we all desire to impact others and do something significant with our lives. Urban was started in downtown San Diego to help people do just that. I believe that all of us start off with good and positive intentions to fulfill the dream and desire that is in our hearts.
Jude 8-12 makes it clear that although many of us start out with the right intentions, if we do not keep our dream focused and centered on God then we can get off and end up in corruption. As you read this portion of scripture it is not just the corruption of selfish gain but it is actually a corruption of morals and authority. This happens to the degree in which we actually begin to live in an unnatural state. When this happens the Bible likens us to waterless clouds or fruitless trees in the time of harvest.
Just as it is natural for a cloud to bring refreshing rain or a fruit tree to yield its fruit in the time of harvest, it is natural for you to live in your dream and fulfill the reason of why God created you. He created you with purpose and intentionality so that you would do great things and impact others. When we are not doing this we are actually living in an unnatural state just like a fruitless tree in the time of harvest. When this happens the tree is then good for nothing, cut down and thrown in to the fire.
How significant is it that you live in the your dream and keep that dream centered on God? According to this passage it is very important. If we do, there is much success and fruit. If we do not, we become like a fruitless tree in the time of harvest and we are living in an unnatural state becoming good for nothing.
The best part about a fruit tree is the fact that people can pull fruit from it and feed themselves. This is true with your life and dream when it is Christ centered. Which leads me to ask this question. Are you living your dream and is Christ the center of that dream? Do you have fruit on your life that is blessing and feeding people? If not take a moment right now and get focused on Jesus Christ once again.
Thanks for listening, I would love to hear your thoughts.
