Daily Bible Reading Plan - 1 Samuel 9, Isaiah 53, Revelation 15-16
Can You Hear Me Now? (1 Samuel 9:16)
My mom has told me from time to time, "Ben be careful what you pray for because God might just give it to you". I have always took that to heart and made sure that when I was talking to God that I would really mean what I said. As I would do this I always wondered if God could really hear me and if He would really answer my prayers.
I am sure I am not the only one who has wondered, "God, can you hear me now?" Whether it is a cry of desperation or a calculated prayer I have come to the conclusion after 35 years that yes God can and does hear the cry of your heart. The cool thing is that not only does God hear your cries but He answers you and fulfills those cries.
The Bible says in Psalm 116:1-2 (NLT), "I love the Lord because he hears my voice and my prayer for mercy. Because he bends down to listen, I will pray as long as I have breath!" WOW! God actually bends down to listen to me speak to Him, He really does hear me now. Not only does He hear me but He atually cares enough to bow down and hear each one of us.
We see this principle played out in the last part of verse 16 in 1 Samuel. It says, "For I have seen my people, because their cry has come to me. The cry of God's people was for a leader or a king to lead them as other nations were led. Although God always wanted to be their leader and their king and their prayer was not the prayer He wanted from them, He answered anyway. God gave them their first king in king Saul simply because they asked Him for it again and again and again.
This principle encourages me because if Israel asked for something like that how much more will He answer us when we pray in accordance with His will and desire. It helps me understand that He really does hear me now and will answer me in continual prayer and in my urgent prayers in a time of need.
For me the principle is simple. Pray, pray often and when I am done... pray some more. When that does not work go back to the drawing board and... pray again and again and again. He really does hear us now and tomorrow when you wake up He will hear you then as well.
Try it and let me know what happens.
