Last week Cara my 6 year old daughter wanted to get a haircut. After about an hour discussion on how short her hair would be we took her to Fantastic Sams. Yes that’s right Fantastic Sams. Now me personally I would not go there to get my haircut but after all my daughter is only 6 and she has alot more hair than I do. One wrong move on my hair and the balding spots look even balder.
Haircuts at the age of 6 are still a family event at the Brinkman house so we loaded up the car and headed to Fantastic Sams (who is Sam anyway).
Once we arrived we gathered around the beloved swivel chair for this glorious haircutting ceremony. I am sure we probably freaked the hairstylist out but we did not care because it was our precious daughter undergoing this precise procedure and after all it was our $15 bucks. When the masterpiece was completed the hairstylist swung the chair around to do the great unveiling of... DUN DA DA DUN... Miss Cara Rose. When the chair swung around Cara had the biggest smile on her face and she said, "I love it, I look so beautiful". We all smiled and agreed with her.
As she walked out of Fantastic Sams she let go of my hand and started spinning and twirling looking in the windows and brushing her hand through her hair she said these 14 words that I will never forget, "I feel so good, I look so different my friends won’t even recognize me". She then began to jump and dance some more.
The minute I heard those words I thought to myself, "Grace and haircuts have alot in common".
The Bible says in Eph. 2:8 that we have been saved by GRACE, God’s grace; the undeserved unmerited favor of God. Grace; God giving us something we really do not deserve.
You see before God gives us His grace we are full of dead ends. Those dead ends are brittle and damaged and not healthy. God comes in and does not try to cover them up or to rearrange things so that you cannot see the dead stuff in our life. He comes in by His grace and love, hacks off all the dead stuff in our life then He comes and washes through every area with His goodness and puts our life on the right track. I don’t know how He does it? I am not even sure why He continues to do it? I am just one of those people who is happy He does it!
We just make sure that we are willing to go regularly to visit Him so that He can do what He does best. He is waiting for you right now. Will you go to Him and allow Him to take some stuff off you that you do not need? I know I am.
I went to Him this morning and I walked away, spinning and twirling looking in the windows and brushing my hand through my hair feeling so good and looking so different that my friends won’t even recognize me.
Thanks for listening

So whenever I spend time with your daughters, or any kids for that matter, I get so many lessons out of it. I think God speaks through them, people just brush the thoughts off cause they are kids. But anyway, good blog, I am so glad for grace, I don't deserve the free haircuts but I am glad I have the best hair stylist (both in the natural and in the spiritual!)
I setup Googgle Alerts the other day for Fantastic Sams because I am researching whether or not to become an area developer for Fantastic Sams and your blog was the first one I read.
The Lord talks to us in many different ways and as I sit hear chocked-up I beleived he just talked to me. With your permission I would like to put this blog in all of my stores at the front counter. Not to promote Fantastic Sams, but to let people know that we have a God that loves us.
Gods peace!
plha,
Please feel free to put the blog in your stores. I am glad God spoke to you and that He would use me to do so. I only ask that you reference our church website where ever you put the blog. the church website is, www.lifeaturban.com.
Blessings
