10,000 Men and 1 Metrosexual

|
So this past weekend I went to Promise Keepers with about 65 other guys from my church. It was a great time of hanging out, but when I walked into the meeting I thought I just walked into a UFC match at the MGM. The amount of built up male tension in that place as guys were just getting off of buses that they had sat on for 4-6 hours was insane. They all began relieving this tension by chanting and hollering like they were at a football game or something. They started chanting "We love Jesus yes we do we love Jesus how about you", and then the other side would begin to chant it back to them. This went on for a good 30 minutes before each session. You would think that after session two they would all know if they loved Jesus or not. I finally got them to stop when I said the good old, "I love Him more look at the score". This of course made absolutely no sense but never the less it worked.

I learned a lot of things this weekend one of which is that I really am a metrosexual. You know one of those guys that likes to dress nice, shop, cook and do home decorating. Don't get me wrong I like sports and I love watching football and getting into it, but as I looked at all of those men this weekend I realized that these guys live for this stuff. They love getting together with one another and hanging out and cheering and chanting and all that stuff. I paused for a minute and thought am I the only one like me in this place - is there something wrong with me!

Is there something wrong with me - Oh no has living with 4 women in my house finally taken a toll on me. Am I slowly converting into one of them. Am I getting to in touch with my feminine side. The title of this conference "The Awakening" was really happening in my life. I realized this week that I need to get out more and get muddy, go fix something, play football, sit around in my garage and talk about cars like I know what I am talking about or whatever it is we males do. Or maybe I should just shoot for child #3 and pray for a boy. Well I will have to talk about that one with my wife.

Anyway that was my weekend thanks for listening.

Mister Pastor,
I hate to say *I told you so*, but HOW MANY TIMES have I told you that your shoes give you away as.... well, you know, since I've told you so many times.

Despite this fact, however, I like you and your sense of style and the fact that you are that *sensitive* type of guy.

Maybe you should move back to the Netherlands. All the men there are tall, good-looking, like to dress well, and most of them are straight. You'd fit right in. :)

PB,

Having been to a Promise Keeper convention once or twice in my life -- although it has been several years since my last experience -- I have to say that I know where you're coming from. The gathering of men at PK event is, well, to be nice, NOT the metrosexual crowd. I might get in trouble with this (so maybe I shouldn't say it!!!) but it seems that the men you will find in the PK crowd probably overlaps largely with the men that you will find watching/attending NASCAR races and/or watching Blue Collar Comedy (starring the very non-metrosexual Jeff Foxworthy). Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course, it just doesn't fit in well with who you are.

And I may not be quite as snazzy a dresser as you (Jackie's still working on me), but I do like to "dress nice, shop and cook" -- the home decorating thing is a little too Martha Stewart-y for me, but that could just be because I don't have the same creative touch as my wife. Anyway, I think you're fine just the way you are. Although having a son wouldn't hurt. ;-)

By the way, what is "mail tension", anyway? Is that some new problem that the US Postal Service is struggling with? I hope they get it figured out and resolved before the busy holiday mailing season begins. ;-)

I would have to agree with emilie, guys in europe tend to be more sensitive about their appearance and you would probably fit right in with those civilized citizens. There's nothing wrong with having nice shoes and looking good... I think it's part of being strong in the grace... if you look good, you look good - you can't deny the facts and the truth.
