Daily Bible Reading: Deuteronomy 28:29-68, Psalm 119:25-48, Isaiah 55, Matthew 3

The Powerful Word

You probably already know this, but every verse in Psalm 119 refers to God’s word, using various expressions. Some of them are “your statues, your precepts, your promise, your word, your laws, your commands, and your decrees.”

A couple of the verses in today’s reading have been meaningful to me and I have them underlined in my Bible. Verse 45: I will walk abut in freedom for I have sought out your precepts.” That is a powerful concept. Seeking out the Word of God and following it allows us to walk about in freedom. There is nothing else that can make that claim. I think this truth is something the world needs to hear. There are so many people who are walking around in bondage, bound by false concepts and addictions. And it’s available to us just by picking up our Bible and reading on it and meditating on it throughout the day.

The next is verse 52. I remember your ancient laws, O Lord, and I find comfort in them.” Throughout this last year I have needed comfort from the Lord many, many times. Often I have turned to God’s Word and found that it did comfort me and was soothing to my aching heart.

Isaiah 55 also has much to say about God’s Word. Verses 1-3 tell us that God’s Word satisfies and is like the richest of fare. It can’t get any better than that, and it doesn’t cost money or labor either!!! Verses 10-11 liken the Word to rain that waters crops so they will produce. His Word will not return to Him empty but will accomplish the His purposes.

God has placed Himself in His Word. John 1:1 says that The Word was God and verse 14 says that Word became flesh and dwelt among the people. That was Jesus. The Word of God is like no other book. It is living and powerful. By reading and meditating on the Word we are actually taking Jesus into our being, into our subconscious. So much better than things we are bombarded with daily.

Why then are there so few people who read and partake of God’s Word on a daily basis? We have something so powerful available to us. The year 2010 is half over, but it’s not too late to determine that in the next half of this year that we are going to be diligent about reading God’s Word and hiding it in our hearts.

You have a treasure chest available at your fingertips. Pick up your Bible and open it.

God is good all the time,

It really is a powerful tool Naomi! So often times I read the scriptures in the morning and it isn't until later in the day that I realized why I needed that exact word. We are not just reading a book, but as we hide it in our hearts we are storing up an arsenal of weapons to use against the enemy throughout our day.
