Daily Bible Reading: Numbers 10, Psalm 46-47, Song of Solomon 8, Hebrews 8

In the Old Testament, God referred to himself as “I AM.” There isn't a name that would do God justice, nor a word that would sum up what He encompasses. Sometimes when I get stressed about a certain situation, a thought will cross my mind, “I don't need God right now, I need __________ (money, energy, peace, answers, health, etc.)!

I need to remind myself that He is called I AM because HE IS everything we need at any given moment. It is a fill in the blank situation!

When you need money -
I AM your provider (Gen. 22:14)

When you need energy -
I AM your place of rest (Matthew 11:28-30)

When you need peace -
I AM your peace (Judges 6:24)

When you need answers
I AM your counselor (John 15:26)

These are just a few of the many attributes that God represents for us.

Psalm 46:10 reminds us to “Be still and know that I am God.” I can be decent at the “knowing He is God” part, but not as much at the “Be still” part. I tend to want to find a solution, work it out on my own strength or start taking the situation into my own hands. I am a problem solver by nature, which is the part of me I have to lay down unto God in order to have complete faith and trust in Him. Many problems are not mine to solve. Many situations are beyond my understanding. Many trials I am simply not strong enough to handle. I am not, but HE IS.

Too many times I have sat in the seat of worry or fear. Unfortunately, worry is like a rocking chair, because you are moving but getting nowhere. When I try to take things into my own hands, it feels like I am making progress but I end up frustrated realizing I still remain in the same spot. It is only when I surrender it to God and remain still that He can take control. Joyce Meyer calls it a vacation for your soul. Although your outside circumstances can feel like chaos - your soul can be still knowing that He is God and He has it in control. What is it that you need today? Let God be your I AM. Fill in the blank with Him today and you can't go wrong.
