Knowledge, Understanding & Wisdom

Proverbs 24:3-4 says, "By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches". We all want a house but it often seems like we spend time trying to fill something we do not have with all precious riches as we accumulate lots of knowledge. According to 1 Corinthians 1:8, knowledge alone puffs up. In order for us to build the house or life God wants us to we must get to wisdom.

I see knowledge, understanding and wisdom like this. Knowledge is knowing a lot of facts about something or someone. I can read something or watch something or overhear a conversation and gain some knowledge about whatever it was I observed. Understanding is me now comprehending the thing I have knowledge about. For example I can see a car engine and know that it is an engine but yet not know how it works. If I have understanding I can now see that same engine, know it is an engine and also comprehend how it works. Wisdom then is me applying the knowledge I comprehend because I see the benefits of it. This is when your life is actually being built. Using the same engine analogy, with wisdom I know what the engine is, I comprehend how it works and now I start up the engine and use it to get me from point A to point B more efficiently.

I have met so many people that know a lot about God and a lot about the Bible. Some times these people even know more than I do but yet when you look at their life you would be hard pressed to see any Godly fruit whatsoever. Basically all the knowledge they have is just a bunch of bling bling that does not mean a thing because they are bankrupt of wisdom. Because of this their life is not being built.

I have met other people who understand the scripture but because of their lack of ambition and desire they never ably the knowledge they comprehend thus once again leaving them bankrupt of wisdom. You see if I have both knowledge and understanding but lack wisdom then I am just feeling imaginary rooms with a bunch of stuff. We must get wisdom.

Proverbs 4:7 tells us that wisdom is the principal thing and that we must have it because wisdom is what builds the house. Wisdom is not just knowing some scriptures in the Bible, it is not just understanding some things about the verses. Wisdom is knowing and understanding the Bible then living it out on a daily basis. It is never about the amount of the Bible we know, rather it is always about the amount of the Bible we live. So today let's all build the life God wants us to build by living out the Word of God.
