Get Fat, Exponentially. Daily Devotional - April 26, 2010

Daily Bible Reading: - Numbers 3, Psalm 37, Song of Solomon 1, Hebrews 1

Having gone through two pregnancies I have notice patterns. During the first two trimesters of pregnancy your body changes slowly and begins to develop curves in new places. You gain weight at a gradual and consistent pace and the baby is doing a lot of developing. However, it is the last trimester that awes me the most because just when you think your belly can't get any bigger and the baby couldn't possibly grow anymore, there is exponential growth. Where before the baby is growing about one pound per month, the baby now begins to grow a pound per week!

God spoke to my heart a while back that exponential growth comes before the birth of something new.

Psalm 37:4 says “Delight yourself in the Lord
and he will give you the desires of your heart.”

Sometimes it's hard when we are stuck between the lines of verse four. We have been delighting, seeking, praying, worshiping, knocking, trusting and believing...and have not yet reached the “desires of our heart” place yet. One desire is simply Him. He is our hearts desire. If we put anything above Him as our hearts desire we end up disappointed. However, the other "hearts desire" is simply the dream that God put inside of our hearts. As we delight ourselves in Him, He brings those desires to pass. Being stuck in between those two verses in the waiting period is the hardest part.

I believe we reach our new beginning only after we have gotten fat enough to birth it! Even though all we feel at the time is the stretching, the growing, the aches and pains – the Lord sees something going on beneath the surface – a carefully and beautifully planned out gift that is just about to reach some exponential growth. The growth is uncomfortable, but it is such a good thing! It means that desire of my heart is going to be big, healthy and strong. Why should I be anxious for the birth, knowing that the more it grows the bigger it is?!

Don't stop delighting yourself in the Lord. You don't want your new beginning to come prematurely and be puny! It might be uncomfortable, but you are only getting fat because you are about to birth your hearts desire – and that is one area you want to be chubby!
