Be Ready

Have you ever had one of those dreams where you show up to an important event and you are giving a speech, you look down and all you are wearing is your underwear or pj's? It is one of those awkward dream moments when you realize that you were not prepared at all for the moment you were in. Even though it is just a dream you usually wake up from those types still feeling a bit unprepared.

Being unprepared for anything in life is not a good thing, but even more so when it comes to our relationship with God. The Bible says in 1 Thessalonians 5:1-2, "Now concerning the times and the seasons, brothers, you have no need to have anything written to you. For you yourselves are fully aware that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night". As believers we are to be ready for the second coming of Jesus and we are to do our best to help get others ready as well. Here in 1 Thessalonians it tells us that as Christ followers we are fully aware that His second coming will be like a thief in the night, so be ready.

The other night at around 2am I heard my patio door bang really loudly, I was startled by it and looked out my curtains and saw a young man standing on my patio. At this point I was not only startled but a little bit ticked off as well. I pounded on the window and yelled at him and he quickly ran away. If I had known that at 2am there would be someone coming onto my patio I would have been waiting for them. I would have stayed up all night with a big stick. I would have put some sharp pointy things on the top of my fence so that when he climbed over it would have hurt him. I would have told my family and those in the house with me to be prepared. I would have done everything to keep him from coming in and to protect my family. I obviously did not know so therefore I was not ready.

As it pertains to the return of Jesus Christ we know He is coming back. Sure we do not know the exact day, time, etc., but we do know that He is truly coming back. Knowing this we need to be ready. We need to make sure our life is in order, that we are living right and that we are doing all we can to get others ready as well. Just like I would have taken every measure possible to guard against the guy who broke onto my patio we need to take every measure possible to be ready at all times. We need to tell everyone we know and warn them to be ready.

My question to you today is, are you ready? If Jesus were to return at this moment, is your life in order and is your families lives in order? Are you taking time to prepare yourselves and those you love? Now I am not saying you have to stay awake all night and you certainly do not have to live in fear. What I am saying is that you need to know that if Jesus Christ were to return at any moment that you would be on your way to heaven with Him. You need to know that there is no sin in your life and that you are at peace with all those you know. Are you ready? Ready to the point that when He shows up like a thief in the night that you will not be caught off guard.

Be ready!
