There Is More In You

I have read Ephesians 3:20 a ton of times but this morning it hit me in a new way. I have also heard this passage talked about or preached many times as well and usually the focus is on the part where God is able to do exceedingly and abundantly above all we can ask or think. This is of course is a very powerful part of the verse but as you read on you actually see how this exceedingly and abundantly works.

Ephesians 3:20, "Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us." With this verse we so often focus on the amazing power of God to work things out and that He can even do more then what we are asking of Him. Not only can He do more than what we are asking but He can do more then what we are thinking. Often times we pray this verse when we are in need of Him to do something in our lives and after we pray we sit and wait for Him to perform and work everything out on our behalf.

As we read on though we see that the power is not just in His ability to do but that there is actually more in you as well. With everything in the Kingdom of God there is divine sovereignty (that which He will do) and human responsibility (that which we must do). Too often we just sit around waiting on the divine sovereignty part without taking any responsibility ourselves. Ephesians says, "we are saved by grace through faith". Sure that verse goes on to say that the faith we have is not even ours but has been given to us by God, but we still must exercise the faith He has given us. This would be us exercising human responsibility.

It says in Romans 8:11 that the same spirit that raised Christ Jesus from the dead dwells in us. This is the power that is working in us according to Ephesians 3:20. We must learn not to just pray and call upon God but we also must learn that the power of Jesus Christ already dwells in us and we just need to exercise that power. The power to do exceedingly and abundantly above all we can ask or think is already in us and ready at any moment. We just need to be continually yielded to God in prayer and daily reading so that when we come against some obstacles we do not slow down but keep moving forward because of the power working inside of us.

Today, realize there is more in you. There is more in you to overcome sin, sickness, poverty and failure. There is more in you to lay hold of the dream that God has placed on your life. There is a power at work in you and it is time to begin to exercise, through human responsibility, the power that has become available through divine sovereignty.

There is more in you!
