Daily Bible Reading - Genesis 34, Mark 5, Job 1, Romans 5
WOW
This past week we celebrated our one year anniversary as a church. We started Urban Church on February 8th 2009 and have been moving forward every since. We have faced our challenges as well as seen some pretty amazing things take place. This past weekend however God stunned us with His overwhelming grace and left us saying WOW!
As we celebrated our one year anniversary there were over 200 people in attendance, 13 of which experienced God's saving grace and 30 others who responded for prayer of some sort. The launch of our Saturday night service was a huge success with a packed house and a great atmosphere. There were more new people then we could even count and the presence of God was there in a strong way. I am still saying WOW today!! It is amazing how God can take a handful of people and turn them into a growing, life giving community 12 months later.
As I read through Mark 5 today I see that making people say WOW is something God is into. In this passage alone Jesus casts a ton of demons out of a man in a pretty impressive fashion, healed a woman who had been dealing with a sickness for 12 years and then concludes the whole chapter by raising a little girl from the dead. WOW! I think the later part of verse 42 sums it all up, "and they were immediately overcome with amazement". In other words these people were in WOW of God.
These situations seemed like impossible situations but yet God came through. In my prayers I was believing for many people in our first year as a church but there were many times I doubted it would happen yet God came through. God has a way of taking what seems difficult for us and making it happen. I believe the reason He does it is two fold. One, to show us how much He really loves us and secondly to display His power. Just like those people in Mark chapter 5 there is no way I can take credit for what we have experienced in the amazing first year we have had.
So today as I read through these passages still in WOW of God I realize that I trust Him and have more faith in Him today than I did yesterday. And although I don't always have to see it to believe it, it sure is nice to be WOWED by God. What doubts do you have today? What obstacles are in your way and seem too big for you? I believe that God is about ready to come through for you just like He did in Mark 5 and just like He did for me and all you will be able to say is, WOW!
