Daily Bible Reading - Exodus 3, Luke 6, Job 20, 1 Corinthians 7

"Why do you call me Lord"

At the end of a great chapter filled with instructions on how we should live this life and how we are to interact with those around us Jesus asks a great question, "Why do you call me Lord, Lord, and not do what I tell you?" Christ is basically saying that with their words they confess he is Lord yet their actions say something much different.

The other day our oldest daughter said, "can we play for five more minutes and after that we will clean our room?" she continued on with, "we promise we will do it we promise, we promise, we promise!" Ben sat down with her and talked to her about the importance of simply letting our yes be yes and our no be no. If we say we will do something all we need to do is do it, there is no need to go on and on with words promising that it will get done. Jesus says this in Matthew 5:37 "But let your ‘Yes’ be ‘Yes,’ and your ‘No,’ ‘No.’ For whatever is more than these is from the evil one." We can say all the words in the world promising or swearing that we will do something but in the end it is our actions that matter. Our actions either confirm or deny the words we say.

What are you saying today? What do you call him? Hear the heart of the Lord today, his desire is for us to truly following him with our words and actions. If you call yourself a Christ follower why would you do anything less then follow him today? If you call him Lord you are saying he has authority, power and control over your life, you are declaring that he is your leader.

If our words and our actions do not line up then we have to ask ourselves if we truly do believe that he is Lord. What are your actions saying? Do you do what he says to do, are you living your life as he has instructed you to live? If your actions say something different then your words simply take some time right now to pray, ask for forgiveness and invite him into your life once again. Surrender to him and allow him to lead you today. "Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me". (John 14:6) As you follow him today you will find the way, the truth and an amazing life!
