Stop and Consider God's Wonders

I love the majesty of the language of Job 37. Just a few of the phrases: "God's voice thunders in marvelous ways; he does great things beyond our understanding. he says to the snow, fall on the earth and to the rain shower, be a mighty downpour." Verses 5-6. The speaker in chapter 37 goes on to talk about the clouds, the lightening, the wind and the sun. I thought it was interesting that as Zechariah is speaking his message in Zech. 12, he begins by reminding his hearers who is speaking. "The Lord who stretchest out the heavens, who lays the foundations of the earth and who forms the spirit of man. Zech. 12:1. The angel flying in the heavens who had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those living on the earth in Rev. 14 also declares God worthy to be worshiped because of his acts of creation. "Worship him who made the heavens, the earth and the sea and springs of water." Rev. 14:7.

The modern American school system persists in teaching evolution as fact and refuses to consider creation by God as even a possibility. But scripture is clear, declaring over and over that God created the heavens and earth. Rev. 1:11 Amplified Version. "You created all things; by your will they were brought into being and were created." Col. 1:16 NIV "For by him all things were created; things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him." John 1:3. "Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made."

The world we live in is an awesome place. The beauty of God's creation is so varied and majestic. If you are like me you get email after email with pictures of various places around the world documenting how fantastic the world is. God could have made a black and white world, instead he filled it with vibrant color for us to enjoy.

At this time of the year when we remember the birth of Jesus, I think we need to stop and realize that that babe who was born into the poorest of circumstances, who didn't even have a bed to be placed in when he was born, is the creator of the whole universe. The scriptures quoted above show that he was active in creation; especially John 1:3. Without him nothing was made that was made. It can't get any plainer than that. In Gen 1:1-3 where the account of creation begins, the word "God" in the Hebrew is Elohim, which is a plural word. And the scripture says the Spirit of God hovered over the waters; then God (the father) said -- the spoken Word. John 1:1 says that is Jesus, the Word made flesh. Gen. 1:26 says "Let us make man in our image. The triune God was the creator.

Our everyday lives can get so busy. There are demands made on our time and energy. We have so many things to do, things that have to get done. But Job 37:14 is a call to slow down. Actually stop and consider God's wonders. Stop our running here and there and take some time out to appreciate all that God has created. Like the old saying, "Stop and smell the roses." But don't stop with marveling at God's creation. It should lead us to worship Him; the one who did the creating. Now that Christmas is over and maybe some of the craziness is out of your life for awhile, take some time out to thank the Lord for all he has done for you, for the marvelous gift of himself, for your family, his provision for you and yes, for the beautiful, fantastic world he created for you to live in. But most of all worship Him. (We become like who we worship!!)

Stop and Consider God's wonders.
