Bible Reading Plan - 1 Chronicles 17, Ezekiel 29, Galatians 3-4
Unbelievable
1 Chronicles 17:1-10 is absolutely unbelievable, it shows the heart of our awesome God. King David decides he wants to build God a house to live in. He tells his plan to Nathan the prophet and Nathan without consulting God says, go for it. Later that night God tells Nathan that he does not want David to build Him a house and that instead God is going to build David a house. 1 Chronicles 17:10b, "...I declare to you that the LORD will build you a house". The very thing David wanted to do for God, God decides to do for David.
This reminds me of Matthew 6:33, "But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." David loved God so much that he was consumed with building Him a house and making His name great. David had a spiritual mind not a carnal mind. He had a mind that was set on God and the things of God and because of this God decides to do something unbelievable. He decides to flip the script on David and says all the things you wanted to do for me David I am going to do for you.
I think the reason that this seems so unbelievable to me is because it seems so contrary to many movements in our culture today. With social media blitzing us at a million miles a minute, it seems like everyone has something to say or a following to build. Just look at some of the things out there, "follow me on twitter" or "become of fan of me on facebook" or "watch me on TV". Although many of these movements say it is about the message not them it is clear that they are building their own house rather than God's. They are seeking the things and hoping the kingdom of God will be added to them but this is so contrary to what we see in this passage.
David with no selfish motives shows us the way to true success. As the church at large catches on to this not only will God be glorified but He will make our ministries a success as well. It is so simple - Seek first God, build Him a house and then watch and see him flip the script and do the unbelievable in your life and ministry.
