What are your eyes feasting on?

There is an old saying that says, "if you look long enough you will buy". This saying is so true and that is why departments stores, restaurants and any other merchant put their merchandise in windows and on billboards. They know that if you see it enough you will end up buying it. This is not just a tool that merchants but it is a tool that is used in the spiritual by God for good or by the enemy for evil.

In Ezekiel 20:1-8 God is reminding His people of the promise to bring them to their promise land but that in order to get their they must put away the detestable things that there eyes are feasting on. Look at the word God uses to describe what they are doing - "Feast". The definition of the word feast is, "any rich or abundant meal, something highly agreeable". God is telling His people to stop feeding themselves abundantly with things that are agreeable to them that should have never been agreeable. In other words you really are what you eat or in this case what you feast your eyes on.

The warning to them comes our of a heart of love and concern as God truly wanted them to walk in their promise land. The only way they were going to get to their promise land was by changing what they were looking at because the longer you look the more you want. Thus they would begin to settle for something a counterfeit of the promise and never fulfill the plan that God had for their life. Because of this He says to put away all the detestable things that their eyes were feasting on.

This warning needs to be heeded by us today as we are in pursuit of the promise and dream God has given us. We need to make sure our eyes are not feasting on things that are hindering us from fulfilling the call of God but that they are feasting on things that are accelerating the call of God. Colossians 3:2 says to, "set our affection on things above". In other words to feast our eyes on the things that come from Him and the promises He has given us. In order to reach or goal and our dream we need to make sure that daily our eyes are set on the right things. We need to put away the detestable things or the things that are keeping us from achieving what God has for us.

Today as you think about the promise God has given you think about the things your eyes are set on. Are they set on detestable things that are hindering you from achieving the dream or are they set on things above that are going to accelerate you into the thing that God has for you?

I think this goes for not just the detestable things, but anything. If we begin to look at those things more than we look to God, even good things can become an idol. Good blog! ;0)
