Bible Reading Plan - 1 Chronicles 2, Ezekiel 15, Luke 11
One Knock Away
Have you ever heard of that old acronym P.U.S.H. - Pray Until Something Happens? As Jesus is teaching His people how to pray He tells them of a persistent person who comes to a friend's house in need of food. He shouts to the friend but the friend replies, "Do not bother me; the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed. I cannot get up and give you anything". Jesus then tells them in vs. 8, "I tell you, though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, yet because of his impudence (persistence) he will rise and give him whatever he needs." In other words because he is P.U.S.Hing he will get his food.
At first glance this might seem very obtrusive and obnoxious but keep in mind that Jesus is teaching them a principle about prayer. He reinforces this principle in vs. 9 by saying, "And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you." The original text of the words ask, seek and knock imply a continual asking, seeking and knocking. Jesus is saying when you are praying (talking to God) don't stop but keep on doing it until HE answers.
I believe that too many times in our life we give up to soon. We give up right before our answered prayer, right before our breakthrough and right before our miracle. We need to go back to the original teaching of Jesus when it comes to prayer and get a little more persistent and aggressive because we might only be one knock away from what we need.
Think about the answers you need from God today and keep on knocking because I believe He is going to answer you.
